In their continuing quest to secure the most dominant names in the sports arena, both Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille have each signed new world-class athletes to represent their brands. Audemars Piguet has teamed up with current world #1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic, just in time to send him to the US Open in style. Richard Mille has sided with highly accomplished Argentinian Polo player Pablo MacDonough.
The Irish Argentine Pablo MacDonough plays for top Argentina Polo team, Ellerstina, where he won the 2010 Argentinian Triple Crown. His career boasts no less than 9 titles, including 4 Hurlingham Open wins. As with all the sports you see RM ambassadors, Polo is a highly physical activity and as you might expect, MacDonough will be wearing he RM during the matches. As the press release states, "Constantly in search for new testing grounds, Richard Mille decided to get involved in this sport to address new technical challenges and test innovative solutions in the world of Haute Horlogerie." MacDonough's own fake watch will be unveiled at the 2012 SIHH.
Audemars Piguet has timed their announcement of new brand ambassador, Novak Djokovic, to coincide with the beginning of the US Open being played in New York this week. Fresh off his Wibledon victory, Djokovic enters the tournament as the #1 seed, thanks to his near perfect season thus far. AP ambassadors have enjoyed success this year in the golf arena (see here, and here), and enjoy wrist time on other iconic athletes, including the likes of LeBron James and Michael Shumacher.
Also of note, the US Open is likely to see Djokovic facing off with Nadal in the final, as they are #1 and #2 seeds respectively. Nadal is of course another of RM's ambassadors, which would make for an AP vs RM final of sorts. Though only Nadal will be wearing one of the watches, as he does for every match.
